It’s Snow Time!

Autumn in Colorado. What an interesting and beautiful season. To see the changing leaves (mostly golden here with just a little red and orange sprinkled in here and there) mixed with dark green pines and white snow is pretty cool.

Not-so-Wordless Wednesday

I’m not quite sure what that means myself! I didn’t want this to be completely wordless, though. My daughter’s choir dress needed to be hemmed, and this is the second time being hemmed for a second wearer. Since the dress is only going to be worn about five times, and it isn’t closely inspected when worn, I left the previous hem in place (they obviously did the same the first time as well). So it wants to stand out just a bit, and the seam is far from perfect. However, it is done and she won’t be stepping on it!

The real reason for the photo was to work with grain. Funny that you also work with grain in sewing! My point is, though, that grain (noise) in a photo isn’t something to be afraid of. It doesn’t make a photo bad. So many people put such emphasis on sharpness and clarity in photos these days. Are we looking at photos or diamonds? :)  I say bring on the noise!

While I love the popular photo spots, I also like to break away from trends. I want to stump other photographers who look at photos and say, “I know where that was taken!” I know they do that because I do the same thing when flipping through yearbook photos! :) So I chose a new location for this senior photo shoot, and it was also convenient for the family to get to.

Autumn Crab Apples Falling on the Ground

Hey, Summer! Are you almost done packing up? You are outta here before the sun rises on Friday! It’s already beginning to look like fall around here. It’s my favorite season (except for the allergies).

Christina | Senior Photos

A little bit shy, a little bit giggly, and very easily distracted (I can totally relate to that last one), Christina was fun to photograph. We went to a park and also to a back side of a shopping center, which was a new place for me and kind of interesting (and surprisingly clean). So much for the increasingly overdone look of pretty girl meets grungy, dirty background. That whole juxtaposition thing is neat, but I’m always trying not to do what everyone else is doing. But enough about that … that’s for another post entirely, or not. :) Here are some of my favorite shots of Christina.

This one because it’s just fun!

Christina also requested that I take photos of her in her cosplay outfit. I introduce to you, Sawada Tsunayoshi (aka: Tsuni)…

Again… just because it’s fun…

Lisa | Senior Photos

What a perfect evening to take photos at Cherry Creek State Park! The weather was great and though there were random swarms of flying insects, there weren’t any mosquitoes this time. This is a good thing because I forgot to grab the can of bug spray on my way out the door! Even though she was in a dress, Lisa wasn’t afraid to sit on boulders and trees or brave chilly water to check out a possible photo spot. Unfortunately, that spot didn’t work out, but it was worth the tiny adventure to be sure. :) Here are a couple faves…

See even more in this slideshow. The song (a favorite of Lisa’s) is “Time to Say Goodbye” by Sarah Brightman/Andrea Bocelli and can be purchased as a single at Amazon.com.

Aimee | Senior Photos

Aimee reminds me a little bit of Julianne Moore with that gorgeous red hair! Such a happy girl with just enough attitude to keep her sassy. When we arrived at the park, there were two other photographers at work already – one with a couple and one with a whole wedding party. 8O So I adjusted my “route” and started in a different spot. Just as people share the road, photographers have learned to share the parks. :)

A few faves…

Photoshop Friday | Pesky Powerlines

Not only did I remove the powerline, but I made a simple curve adjustment to clear up the photo. I love Canon for its true-ness to color, but it tends to render photos a bit softer than Nikon (I call it a bit hazy). Then I made some things pop a bit by dodging and burning and applying spot sharpening to some details. That’s it! You can see them larger by clicking on the photos. Yes, there is a spot I could have paid a little more attention to. Bonus points to anyone who can point it out! :)

World Photography Day | Get Out and Shoot!

Unfortunately, I can’t get out and shoot until after 6 p.m. because this is my day to work a later shift. But you bet your bootie I’ll be out there shooting later! Meanwhile, here’s a photo not previously shared.
